Your tincture has not likely gone bad! Shelf life of our tinctures vary depending on what type of tincture you purchased, but they all have amazingly long shelf lives due to how they're made. As a result, we include manufacture dates—not expiration dates—on all of our tincture bottles.
Single-Herb Tinctures (Ra Herbals) and Herbal Compounded Tinctures:
All of Sun God Medicinals' Single-Herb Tinctures in our Ra Herbals line, as well as all of our lines of Herbal Compounded Tinctures are preserved in 100% organic cane alcohol. As a result, they have a shelf life of an astounding 60 months, or 5 years, from their manufacture date. You can find the manufacture date affixed to the tincture bottle. These herbal tinctures will last at least five years from the manufacture date, and likely much longer after that. However, after about five years there may be diminished potency in the herbal constituents. Purely alcohol-based tinctures can last almost indefinitely—but it's possible you will experience some evaporation and/or loss of potency of the herbal constituents over time.
Hemp Tinctures with Supporting Herbs:
The vegetable glycerin and small volume of alcohol present in our Hemp Tinctures both act as natural preservatives to prevent the growth of bacteria. However, vegetable glycerin has a shorter shelf life than a traditional alcohol-based tincture. You may want to dispose of your vegetable glycerin-based tincture after 12 months, or 1 year, from the manufacture date on the bottle.
Green Dragon Hemp Tinctures:
Sun God Medicinals' Green Dragon Hemp Tinctures are preserved in 100% organic cane alcohol. Like our Ra Herbals Single-Herb Tinctures, the Green Dragon Tinctures have a very long shelf life, but due to the cannabinoid-rich Oregon-grown whole hemp flower used in the extraction process, we set the expected shelf life at about 24 months, or 2 years, from their manufacture date. Truthfully, Green Dragon Hemp Tinctures should last much longer than 2 years, but it's possible that the potency of the cannabinoid-rich whole hemp flower extract will diminish after that time. Purely alcohol-based tinctures can last almost indefinitely—but it's possible you will experience some evaporation and/or loss of potency over time.
You can find the manufacture date for Sun God Medicinals' Green Dragon hemp Tinctures in the batch information affixed to the tincture bottle. The manufacture date will appear as the second set of numbers in the batch number, formatted as a serialized date. For example, if the batch number is 1721H-011619, the serialized date is 011619, meaning the tincture was manufactured on 01/16/19.
